Groove o' the day: Jorge Rossy calypso

I'll try to keep these little quicky-posts coming as I work on our Book of Intros, and a couple of other pressing, revenue-generating, writing projects. This is a little calypso groove by Jorge Rossy, on the tune Little White Lies, from Kurt Rosenwinkel's album East Coast Love Affair. The groove in its basic form is played after the band comes in:




On the intro, Rossy plays the same left hand part on the tom toms. The bass drum and toms are really unified in tuning and volume, making a nice three-pitch melody out of their parts:
